2015 has been a huge year for Ensemble Offspring. We toured to China, embarked on numerous collaborations, welcomed our new Patron, Kim Williams, celebrated 20 years strong, and say farewell to our co-Artistic Director, Damien Ricketson.
It is impossible to put into words Damien’s commitment to Ensemble Offspring over the past 20 years. It was his baby — his offspring. After devoting his entire adult life to this mammoth project, and acting in the new role of Chair of Composition at the Sydney Conservatorium, he felt it was time to say a sad farewell. But never fear, we will be collaborating with Damien into the future with The Secret Noise showcasing at APAM (February) and an Australian Voices retrospective of his works with ANAM at the Melbourne Recital Centre (June). Damien will be sorely missed but will still be up the road and very much apart of the future of Ensemble Offspring!
Here are some of our favourite memories of 2015:
I am extremely excited to be leading the group as sole Artistic Director into the new year. 2016 promises to be an exciting new music odyssey for those with an adventurous spirit! In Sydney we present our regular Sizzle series (April 24), a concert at the National Maritime Museum (August 6) and at the end of the year our inaugural Kontiki Racket Festival (12-13 November). The year kicks off with a bang with performances as part of the Peninsula Summer Music Festival (January 9) and MOFO in Hobart (January 15 & 16) and throughout the year we tour to the Adelaide Hills, Brisbane, Tyalgum, Melbourne, Canberra and more!
And don’t forget to book your tickets now for our Sydney Festival performance on January 23 with the Australian Art Orchestra – they make the perfect Christmas present.
