Cantor and Biographica winners of 2018 Art Music Awards

At the Australian Music Centre Art Music Awards Ensemble Offspring is thrilled to see works we performed win in two categories, both Choral/Vocal Work of the Year and Instrumental Work of the Year.

Take a few minutes to enjoy Lisa Illean’s exquisite Cantor, winner of the 2018 Art Music Award for Instrumental Work of the Year. Cantor (after Willa Cather) was created with the generous support of the 2016 APRA AMCOS Art Music Fund, and was performed by Ensemble Offspring at Carriageworks in September 2017, in our Who Dreamed It concert. As part of our Year of Women Composers, Ensemble Offspring was instrumental in commissioning and premiering this exceptional work.

Congratulations also to composer Mary Finsterer and librettist Tom Wright. Biographica, which we performed in collaboration with Sydney Chamber Opera, was awarded the Vocal/Choral Work of the Year. You can read more about the project here.

Also, our Artistic Director, Claire Edwardes, was a composer and performer on Acoustic Life of Sheds, winner of the award for Excellence in a Regional Area. It truly was a huge night for Ensemble Offspring!
