The ARIA’S 2019:

We’re pleased to announce Classic Kids: Music For The Dreaming has been nominated for an ARIA Award for Best Children’s Album! Through the story-telling and music of First Nations composer Brenda Gifford, the album explores the culture and stories from the NSW South Coast.

The category Best Children’s Album includes other great legends such as The Wiggles; Regurgitator; Dan Sultan; and The Beanies.

Adventure through ancient lore

Classic Kids: Music For The Dreaming reveals how sound can tell stories and create atmosphere in this magnificent musical experience.  With new compositions by Indigenous composer, Yuin woman Brenda Gifford, and performed by Ensemble Offspring and Wiradjuri actor and singer Kamil Ellis, Music for The Dreaming is inspired by the seasons and the natural environment around Wreck Bay, NSW south coast. The album highlights the ‘old ways’ of life on the South Coast through stories and cultural teachings told to us by Budawang Elder from the Yuin Nation, Noel Butler – one of Aunty Brenda’s mob!

Music for The Dreaming is a production celebrating new classical music for young Australian audiences. Presented by ABC KIDS listen – a dedicated radio station for preschoolers, it aims to provide children aged 0–5 and their families with a way to access the music and stories they love in a trusted online environment.

We’re delighted to see this classical album nominated, and the fact that it is an album that includes Indigenous language and music makes it all the more special. It’s a unique and important recording, and we’re so happy others in the industry agree!

Stay tuned for the ceremony and results on November 27th, 2019!
