Listen Up! is Ensemble Offspring’s micro-festival of new music, bringing together Australia’s most inspiring musicians with an obsession for the newest of the new. A smorgasbord of contemporary-classical and jazz virtuosi, First Nations artists and art music fiends come together over two 60-minute programs.
Two adrenalin-filled world premieres by Australian composer Kate Neal and New Zealand up-and-comer Karlo Margetić kick off the evening at 6pm. Then three modern masterpieces from around the globe: Errollyn Wallen’s eclectic and free-spirited approach to music-making, Jennifer Higdon’s dramatic modernism and unstoppable rhythmic drive, and Tristan Coelho’s unique, glitchy machine music.
From 8pm, outspoken Yorta Yorta singer/songwriter Allara takes the stage with her double bass for the first time in Sydney. Finally, First Nations violinist and singer Eric Avery joins her with the Australian Art Orchestra and Ensemble Offspring to discover and share unique musical meeting points – a big sonic hug. Embrace living, breathing music at Listen Up! on September 11.
Ensemble Offspring is committed to ensuring our events are accessible to everyone. Please email admin@ensembleoffspring.com at the time of booking to inform us of any special access needs.
