Mesmerism

October 11 @ 8:00 am 5:00 pm

Filmed in the Joan Sutherland Theatre as part of the Opera House’s 2020 From Our House To Yours digital season, witness the risk taking and virtuosic instrumentalists of Ensemble Offspring perform an intimate and eclectic program of progressive and innovative music of our time.

Ensemble Offspring presents a new arrangement of local hero Melody Eötvös’s flute and vibraphone duo Tardigradus, which celebrates the tiny water bear. Andrea Keller’s Love in Solitude was written for the group in 2016 after winning the Merlyn Myer Commission, and combines manipulated samples of the performers on stage with poignant text from Rainer Maria Rilke. Finally, the concert takes its title from Jessica Wells’ vibrant, virtuosic arrangement of Paul Mac’s 2019 electronica release, Mesmerism.

4.5 stars ★★★★“It is like an invocation, chords hanging in the air for a moment before the arrival of a lively perpetuo moto which showcases the virtuoso chops of the five-piece ensemble.” – Harriet Cunningham Limelight Magazine

“Perfect program for the lockdown era.” – Peter McCallum, Sydney Morning Herald
