Ensemble Offspring

Plekto

July 8, 2014 @ 8:00 pm 11:00 pm

Ensemble Offspring traces the avant garde legacy of Iannis Xenakis in Plekto (Braids) – a virtuosic and adventurous selection of seldom heard chamber music for sextet from around the globe. The program features Charisma and Plekto by Iannis Xenakis, Kaija Saariaho’s Oi Kuu, Beat Furrer’s Lied, The Riot from the recently departed Jonathan Harvey, Australian Anthony Pateras’ Broken Then Fixed Then Broken and a world premiere by Mexican born Juan-Felipe Waller.

Don’t miss this opportunity to experience these intertwining works spanning three generations of heavy hitting compositional voices.

“exhilarating and intelligently constructed…visceral joyous music at its most elemental.”

“This was Offspring and new music at its stimulating best.”

Peter McCallum, SMH

“Contemporary music’s equivalent of a Heston Blumenthal tasting plate…this was edgy music that repaid putting in the hard listening yards.”

Clive Paget, Limelight
