Ensemble Offspring

Sounds Absurd

November 30, 2010 | 8:00pm

Sydney’s champions of weird and wonderful music, Ensemble Offspring, are joined by actor Katia Molino and director Carlos Gomes of Theatre Kantanka in a staged event that is as much eye catching as it is ear catching. Showcasing music from the irreverent musical trouble-maker, Mauricio Kagel and featuring a work especially commissioned from Australian composer Moya Henderson, this radical performance indulges in the visual spectacle surrounding the performance of music. From the sound of dancing hands and painful body slapping to upside-down cellos in drag… sounds absurd? You bet! Join us as we take the theatrics of music to the extreme in a program that entertains and amuses.

“The always-original Ensemble Offspring had put together a concert which seemed to ask: ‘What comes next, after postmodernism?’ and answer it by saying: ‘We aren’t quite sure but we hope it raises a smile’.”
