Claire chatted with Andrew Ford on The Music Show ahead of our February concert at Sunset Piazza Celebrating 50 years of Reich’s Drumming.
“Steve Reich’s epic work Drumming turns 50 this year; the composer himself, 85. To mark this work, considered to be one of the touchstones of 20th century music, percussionist Claire Edwardes (along with Ensemble Offspring) is about to perform Drumming and other Reich works, plus a series of contemporary music in their Avant Gardens program. Claire takes us through Drumming, which is characterised by a technique called phasing, and she says it’s still one of the scariest works in the percussion repertoire.”
